Hi,
I did a clean install of Windows XP [using an old CD] into an old HP Pavilion a1410n that had XP Media Center Edition 2005. Tried the phone installaion, which said the product 3 product keys were not valid.
Now I cannot validate XP using the Product Key Label on the pc or in the installation CD or another XP Product Key.

Summary:
Installed XP Home Edition into XP Media Center Edition 2005 pc.
The product key showing in the pc is different from the label and the installation CD.
Was asked for the product key only after the XP installation, which was working fine.

If a legitimate XP cd doesn't work because the pc is an XP Media Center Edition 2005 pc, shouldn't I be able to install a legitimate Vista CD?

Please advise,

Thanks,
Joe

with xp media center edition was actually different than normal xp. so a media center key needs to be used with a media center xp disk. if you don't have the media center disk, then your really in trouble as the disk does not exist. <redacted by moderator. you misunderstand my post. he has a valid windows xp media center edition key and thus legally entitled to use the os. it does not matter how he gets the copy of the install disk. you can download a windows 8 iso file from microsoft directly and used to be able to download win 7 as well and vista, xp before that. the media itself is not pirated, using activation hacks or stolen keys is what makes it illegal and pirated.

i only offered to provide a copy of the os to go with his LEGAL key/liscense. i never offered nor will i ever offer to help obtain illegal use of any software.

simply downloading an iso is not illegal nor advocating piracy. i'm long out of that game and will never go back. torrents are used for a lot more than piracy and is a valid distribution method for legal content.

bitorrent is even working on a torrent based browser!! decentralizing the entire web into the torrent network.
