Hi, this is a very basic question to answer, but my Google efforts have (unsurprisingly given the topic) been less then effective. I wish I was better at networking...
Here's the simple plot setup.
I work in an office.
My fiance works in the same office.
Now for the complicated bit.
The work connection is slow. Extremely slow. Now, my internet was being slow and useless one day, and then something happened, and it stopped functioning at all. IT came over, and went into my connection settings and changed some numbers, and suddenly I was on a different connection.
This connection was significantly faster, and unlike the previous one, no content was blocked. I could go on Youtube if I wanted, not that I would, because it's work and I'm busy.
Now, my fiance had the same thing happen, however, they got on her computer and messed with some stuff, and she's back on the old connection. This is affecting her work, as she works in a very fast paced environment.
Since I'm still here, this connection is still available. So here's my question(s):
What is the difference between our connections? (We're using the same default gateway, etc)
Why is the connection I'm on faster? (The office is on a T3, so is this traffic shaping at it's finest?)
How can I use the fact that I'm still connected, to obtain the necessary information to switch her back onto the good connection?
Following that, how do I go about doing it?
P.S. I've asked one or two "work" related questions here, which weren't received very well :/
I just want to clarify, that I want the information, not advice saying I "should just ask IT or don't do it".
Thank you in advance for anyone who is able to help me with these questions. It may seem like a newbie question, but I genuinely don't know the answer, and it was a real effect on the person on this side of the screen. You, future person, are awesome.
