How should I go about upgrading?

Hey guys, I built my PC a year ago without really considering the possibility of upgrading. A year later, I am getting annoyed with my PC freezing under load. I want to know what your thoughts are about upgrade paths I could take. I want to upgrade to an SSD, more RAM, and a better GPU. However, I might need a better CPU for the GPU. Anyway, thanks for the help. My current specs are below.

CPU: FX-6300
Motherboard: MSI 970A-G43
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws Series 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1600
Storage: 1TB Western Digital Caviar Blue 7200 RPM
Video Card: HIS Radeon 7850 2GB
Case: NZXT Phantom 410
PSU: Corsair 600W

Solution
Well for an SSD, I can suggest Crucial and Samsung SSD'S. Never had any problems with them.

As for your cpu and gpu. What is your budget for a new one?
Also what exact model is your psu? is it a CX600?

As with your cpu it should be fine with any Medium to high end card you put in there (if it does you can buy an aftermarket cooler and overclock a little), if you can afford it I'd suggest a gtx 970 or r9 290 (if the r9 290 is cheaper).
Also if you do go the r9 290 you'll need to check out your psu, if it's the CX series I wouldn't trust it to run the r9 290.

-good luck

CPU + GPU, no real budget. Just do not need an i7 or a 980 or anything like that. Yes, my PSU is the CX600. I heard my CPU bottlenecks things like the 770.

Yes there will be a bottleneck, although if you can upgrade the cpu I'd suggest Intel. For the higher end of cpu's Intel is the only competitor at the moment.
So I'd suggest an i5 4590k, which means you'll need a new motherboard as well. Any motherboard of your choice will do as long as the socket is LGA1150 and has atleast 1 PCI-E 3.0 16x slot. The i5 4590k should do you pretty well, it won't bottleneck any cards at the moment so you're open to any future upgrades down the road ;)
Although if you don't have money you could overclock your FX6300 to around 4.5ghz+ and hopefully relieve some bottleneck. Buying a higher end AMD cpu will still leave a slight bottleneck anyway.

As for a gpu I still suggest the GTX970, it's a good price for performance card at the moment (depending where you live). You could also sell your old 7850 on ebay to cover a bit of the cost. The 970 is also very power efficient so I would suggest it the most.

With all this your pc should be able to Max pretty much anything at 1080p for possibly the next 2 years.

-good luck

Yeah.. It feels kinda like I need to buy an entire new system at this point. Between all these random upgrades. Though I guess I could start with RAM and a 970 then add the new mobo and CPU later.

Yeah at this rate you're making a new system, yup I would add the ram and gpu first. The bottleneck will be quite noticable but after you do the cpu upgrade later all will be good.
You can also overclock that cpu a little to make it slightly less of a bottleneck.

Is my PSU sufficient for the 970? Thanks so much for your help! Best answer selected.

Yup, your psu should be okay for the 970. Just don't do massive overclocks on it. It's a lower end Corsair psu. Possibly in the future you can upgrade to a Corsair AX series psu, but for now your one will be sufficient, just don't push it too hard.
