I saw some answers about not using pin 4 but in the manual it says pin 2 is the speed not pin 4 therefore i can't connect a 3 pin case fan to only the other 3 on the mobo.

Any suggestions?

1) You can connect a 3-pin fan to a 4-pin mount on the motherboard. I'm not quite sure what you mean by "only the other 3".

Some boards now only support PWM (4-pin) fans properly. My Asus supports BOTH for the case fans but only PWM for the CPU.

2) The fans will spin but you can only CONTROL THE SPEED if both conditions are met:

a) The motherboard fan control supports VOLTAGE as well as the already supported PWM method of fan control, and

b) The fans are designed to be variable (some are meant to run at 12 Volts only)

3) So connect the fans, install the motherboard software and go into the fan control section and see if you can control them. You'll also need this for the CPU FAN.

what im saying is, according to the manual the pins are as follows:

pin 1: GND
pin 2: +12V/Speed Control
pin 3:Sense
pin 4: VCC

so what I had read is that pin 4 is usually the speed control so if i connect my 3 pin connector to pins 1-3 then it will be fine. I'm not sure what to do in this case
