Hey guys,

This has been bugging me for the past week and I appreciate it if any of the pros here could shed some light on this.

I connect my PC to TV via HDMI and I usually turn the TV into standby mode to save energy.

However, when i turn it off, my PC reboots and I get a Blue Screen error message as the cause of the unexpected shutdown.

Specs of my rig :
- i5-4460
- 8gb DDR3 Ram
- Booting from a SSD flash drive & an old laptop hard drive
- No graphics card yet.

Those blue screens of death have these error codes that you can actually google. It may shed some light into what's bugging your system.

My guess is your (smart?) tv is sending some signal thru the hdmi cable, kinda like: "welp, display is off, make sure you dont send data, whatever component is connected thru the hdmi..". A trial for this would be to connect the pc with another form factor like dvi, vga, displayport, etc.. either by new cables or a socket adapter/converter.

After a googel of 'blue screen of death 116' heres some pages of other people with your problem.

answer.microsoft.com
same problem here in uncle tom's!
a pchelpforum success story

..well anyway, this sure is a tricky problem from all of those results. The thread here from tom's said that he 'fixed' it by changing his mobo. The pchelpforum one uninstalled his old drivers (to clean out them old .dlls and old files) and reinstalled the most recent set of vidcard drivers. So in your case, the motherboard may have included its own set of drivers for the video, or its available from the 'net.

Its really .. peculiar tho, that the problem is tied to your display off button. Oh! I had a friend that dropped his mouse, and his PC crashed (not sure if the same bbcode 116 bsod). So everytime his mouse gets a hard bump, it triggers a crash, haha. Never saw it myself tho..

edit: the dmp file is for microsoft/hardware manufacturers really, I don't have the software to parse thru that file, sorry.
