Wireless Communications not turning on.

I'm having troubles with my laptop since the last Windows 8.1 update. I have had to use solely ethernet cables since my wireless communications aren't turning on. I'm able to turn bluetooth and airplane mode on and off but Wifi stays off. I am completely stumped as to what the issue might be and it's rather annoying since my ethernet cables are rather short (~1m)

The easiest solution is to get a longer Ethernet cable, and they are pretty cheap.

You can try opening the laptop and making sure the wifi card is seated and connected properly. I would also make sure that it has its driver installed (check in the device manager).
