My laptop have been working properly for the last 3 years and I took it on a 4WD trip to watch movies and when we got back it basically unusable the only thing it runs (not very well) is Skype. If I try to open anything else like the internet it just sits there with the loading symbol next to the mouse, If I press the start button it will open it then if I press computer the start menu just turns some what transparent
HELP! I need my computer to complete assesment but is is semi frozen or unusable

try to check every ram stick (if you have several ram sticks).if you have a dedicated gpu try to run your pc using integrated graphics. boot from safe mode (https://www.google.com.sa/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CB4QFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwindows.microsoft.com%2Fen-us%2Fwindows%2Fstart-computer-safe-mode&ei=-0KQVK2iCcT9Uv2fgYgD&usg=AFQjCNFrxfGItFIdUxB4BMpCeE7W7ko4YA&sig2=x7q2z8oDgtCeZZTw-2dGWA) if non of the above work do a clean install (don't forget to backup). (before trying anything make a Ubuntu bootable usb flash from another Pc http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-ubuntu)
