Hi
I installed a seagate sshd Hybrid drive (ST1000LM014-EJ164) in my MacMini. The firmware revision is SM14 and I think that the newest Firmware is SM16. Does anybody know how to update the firmware on a mac and specially on a macmini?? Because it seems that seagate just supports windows!
Thanks for your help

I have a MacMini with this exact same drive, and I have an external CD/DVD drive attached via USB. That should allow you to boot from a CD. By the way, my drive has SM15 firmware - where can I get SM16?

you can use this http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ or http://diskmakerx.com/ .....but i do suggest try the first one.

Hi. Doesn't work! Doesn't recognize the usb with the iso! And the use of either of these 2 programs makes a recovery usb out of it, but no way to acces the iso i think?!

Yes! The created usb cannot be used to boot a mac! Try using a windows pc! ( or something like that) is the message i am getting!
I also got a message from seagate:Thank you for contacting Seagate Support.

I do apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, it is not possible to update a firmware on a Mac computer. You will need to update it from a Windows machine. You can also try to contact Apple, to see if they have any work around.

Hi. I just did this yesterday but used Windows running of Parallels on my Macbook Pro. There must be a way to do this but if you have access to any Windows machine, this is the most painless way. It will wipe everything off your USB stick so make sure you save everything you want to keep. Seagate also suggests you backup important stuff on your SSHD before proceeding. The bootable USB drive will say Windows "something" on booting but it certainly works on a Mac.

Once the it's created and shows up as a SEABOOT drive, reboot your Mac and hold the alt key while booting. Allow it to boot and then 3 options show up (use the arrow keys and enter to select). I don't remember the order of the options but one flashes the firmware, another checks the drive and the last one is an exit + shutdown option (to end and close down the process). I was previously on SM12, and I was done with the entire flashing process to SM16 took no more than a couple of minutes.

Hope this helps.
