One stick of dual-channel RAM failed

Just a quick question. Sorry if this has been answered - my searches didn't turn up much usable info.

I have 2x8GB sticks of RAM on a dual channel mobo. One stick just died, so I pulled it, leaving a single 8GB stick. I am obviously expecting a performance drop from losing half my RAM, but I was wondering if the fact that it's dual channel memory left as a single stick would affect it any further. Would it be urgent that I replace both sticks ASAP, or would it be fine to run as is for the time being?

From a performance standpoint it will be a few %. If you purchased the two sticks as a matched pair the vendor may require you to return BOTH sticks and get a new matched pair. I had that happen with a matched 4 stick set. Had to return all 4 for 1 bad one.
