can I press the CLR CMOS button while computer is on?

Im just wondering if it is safe to press the CLR CMOS button on my motherboard (MSI Z97 Gaming 7) at the back panel of the computer while it is on. Is this a bad thing to do? Am I only supposed to press this button when the computer is off or on? Or can it be either?

what they tell you on the motherboard user manual for this it is the same for the switch on the board itself always system off if you prees it system on that is at your own risk .

OK but just to be clear I'm NOT using the jumper. Like there is an actual button at the back panel of the PC where the USB ports are and all that. Does that still apply?
