DVD player freezes on brand new discs! Help?

i have a Sony DVD player. i guess it's maybe 5 years old. i bought a brand new movie. it will be fine for an hour or so, then it freezes up like every 8 seconds

Try cleaning the disc, and making sure it is not scratched.

I have noticed that some of these new DVD's do not play well in my older DVD player that generally played anything. They are fine in my newer bluray player. I blame the newer copy protections.
