Low CPU and GPU usage with horrible FPS

Hi there,

I´ve just upgraded my GPU, got a Gigabyte GTX-970 G1 Gaming and my FPS are the same, if not sometimes, worse than before playing DayZ Standalone and ARMA III. (My previous GPU was a simple Sapphire HD 6870)

Did a few changes, doesn't matter if its low/medium or high/very high, i´m getting ridiculous 15 FPS in cities and less than 30 elsewhere.

Even my processor, if its 3.1GHz (stock) or running at 4.2GHz (OC) does not significantly change in game performance.

So I installed hwinfo64 and Afterbunner to check in game temps and load. I have found out that temps are fine, as I knew, but I´m not using more than 40% of CPU and GPU load...

I changed as well those cfgs like sceneComplexity / shadowZDistance / viewDistance / preferredObjectViewDistance.... nothing noticeable came up.

I Know the optimization of the Dayz and ARMA III engine is bad, bla bla bla, but i can not understand that with this new GPU, which is much much better than my previous one, I have no gain at all.

What am i doing wrong?

my specs

FX-8120 OC @4.2GHz
ASUS MA588-M
CORSAIR HYDRO H60
GIGABYTE GTX 970 G1 Gaming
CORSAIR VENGEANCE 8GB DDR3 1600
CORSAIR CX750
Win7 Ultimate 64 SP1

Dayz Launch options on steam:

-nosplash -noPause -noLogs -maxMem=8192 -maxVRAM=1024 -cpuCount=8 -exThreads=7 -malloc=tbb64malloc_bi

Solution

go to the Nvidia control panel and specify the game to use maximum performance under the power saving options.

change maxVRAM=1024 to 4096. that may help. you could also turn off C1E in BIOS to get better performance from your CPU.

Thanks for the reply Aaron!

I've tried the "4096"on the launch option, apparently is pointless since I read many times the game cannot handle/use more than 2048 and even with 2048 there is no difference whatsoever.
I found the C1E on the bios and turned it off. To be honest I don't think there is a difference, I see the same CPU & GPU usage when playing, around 20-30%

I did notice some small improvment, still far away from a decent performance so i bought an i5 4440 processar and got a gigabyte gaming mobo.
Now I have an average of 40 FPS.

Thanks for your effort

It is because day-z is still in alpha and written like crap. My fiance's little brother runs an A6 dual core and a 550Ti and pushes almost 60 in this game. I know guys with i7's and 780Ti's that cant break 30 FPS. This game is still junk, people need to wait for an actual release before crying about performance problems.

I tried that, did not work for me. Got maximum 50 fps on all lowest except textures and resolution (which didn't increase fps if i lowered them) and 30 max fps if i maxed out the game on i7-4790k, 32GB ram and titan X.

This game is a mess, and has the worst pc optimizations i have seen in a game.
