I want to reuse my current HDD in a new build (first build) with a new motherboard. will plugging in the hard drive as is be ok or will I have to wipe it and then reinstall everything after is is properly synced to the new system? If I have to wipe it, is there any way to save the OS (windows 7) and programs like Microsoft word? Or will I have to buy all that stuff new. Also should note that the pc I will be taking the HDD from is a stock hp pavilion desktop with pre-installed OS. Thanks for the help!

You will need to re insatll windows when putting the drive in the new machine, formatting the drive is always a good idea (or you will have lost space with the old windows installation and it may cause issues). If you can back up any important files on another drive. You can pull the windows and office serial keys off your machine using Magicjellybean key finder https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/ if you dont have the product keys to hand, the program should find both windows and office product keys. You will however need a copy of both windows Home/Ultimate (whatever OS you have and it MUST match whatever OS you are using now or the serial wont work) and a copy of office. If you dont have the installation disks then you can...

If you dont have the installation disks then you can obtain both of those online from various sites but your OS must be in ISO format and burned to a CD/DVD or put on a bootable USB stick. (I cant list which sites due to legal reasons but windows states you can make back up copys of your installation disks so its a grey area when torrenting this kind of software).
