How can I move my DSL Modem/Router to another jack?

I'll try to make this is a simple as possible, although it doesn't seem to be. So, I'd like to move my ATT Uverse DSL Modem/Router to the living room for logistical reasons. Currently, it is in my bedroom. This is a house and not a condo or apt. The jack where the DSL modem/router is plugged into now has 4 ports (RJ11). 3 of them are blue colored, and one is green. The modem is currently connected to the green port. I have 2 more jacks upstairs, one in the kitchen and one in the living room. Both these have a coax port and an RJ11 port. So, I tried plugging in the modem directly to both the kitchen and the living room ports, and the modem would not work. There are no line filters or anything plugged into them either. I'm thinking whoever wired the DSL (before I moved in), made the port in my bedroom a dedicated line? I don't have much experience with DSL, only cable modems. Cable Modems of course are easy to move, you simply find another coax line and your done. This seems more complicated.

I've done quite a bit of research online trying to figure out what to do, but to be honest, I'm confused. I'd rather not pay ATT to move it if I don't have to. I don't have any pics right now but I can get some later today.

Can someone walk me through trying to do this? It can't be that hard can it? It seems like the other jacks in the house would have been able to accept the DSL but I guess they aren't?

Uverse is more than just DSL. In my house, there is a separate line they needed to run for uverse. The jack is the same size as RJll, but it has more wires than a typical phone line (I don't remember if it is 3 or 4 pairs). I don't know how they wired your house when they installed uverse, but in mine they ran a new line that did not connect to the old phone lines at all. If yours is the same, you may be able to buy an extension cable and run it yourself for relocating your modem. Otherwise, AT&T will probably need to do it.

Thanks Calculagator. I was thinking the same thing as I mentioned, they just ran the one dedicated Uverse line to the bedroom. Unfortunately, I can't even get to it from the back side, because to access it is in the basement, and its finished. In other words, we have a ceiling in the basement and to access it would require cutting a hole just to see it.

Can you let me know how I would run the extension cable to other jack? Wish I had a pick, but basically in one of the other ports, there is an RJ11 line running out and back down again. Not sure where this goes. Maybe that is just spliced to activate the other phone jacks? (Not for DSL though?)

You should be able to remove the faceplates on these jacks, to inspect the wiring.
If you have phone service coming from ATT, you can walk around your house with a wired phone set and see whether any of the other RJ11 jacks are "live", and whether your DSL jack is live as well. This will help you understand the wiring

Hi Alabalcho,

Unfortunately this is the age of the cell phone, and we don't even have any land phones available. We just use our cell phones and have the Uverse Cable TV/Internet. I know the kitchen jack is live, because my wife used to have a landline there, just not sure about the living room. I would assume that one is live as well. All I want to do is move the DSL jack from our bedroom to the living room.

Will I have to run a new wire somewhere to that living room jack? I don't think it would be possible to get to the wire in our bedroom, because as I mentioned, the access is in the basement and above a ceiling because it's finished.
