Far Cry 3 DirectX 9 FPS Lag

Hi,

I'm getting strange FPS lag when using DirectX 9 on Far Cry 3. I can play fine with DirectX 11 at around 40-60 fps on my AMD Radeon HD 7870 Double Dissipation GPU, however after switching to DX9 it runs so much worse. Down to 5-10fps on even to lowest graphic settings. Can this be fixed?

Well you need to understand that with every new DirectX version they are trying to optimise it more and more for us.
Be it both with software and hardware.
By downgrading to DX9 you are purposefully de-optimising your game, thus giving you a worse experience.
The dilemma for you is that there actually is a fix for your problem, it IS DirectX11.
Because it fixes the problems that are causing the fps-drops.

I would drop the mod if i were you,
Because de-optimising your whole game for a few special fx wich you...

It does seem weird, haha. I'd rather a much more stable FPS. DirectX 9 doesn't decrease much visuals on Far Cry 3 but provides a better frame rate in foliage dense areas.. Plus there is a SweetFX mod I want to use which requires DX9.

I'm afraid that there is no fix for it as far as i know.
The reason they keep making new DirectX versions is exactly because of better optimisation.
Only thing i can advice you is to put normal textures quality back up abit but turn Anti-Alliasing off, AA can cause lots of hickups when a lot of new textures are loaded in, think explosions or driving at high speed through forests and such.

Though i find it strange that your mod doesn't work with DirectX11, have you tried it?
Maybe there is an update on the Modder's site.

That's unfortunate. I'll mess with the graphics a bit more. I was just confused that people were saying that DX9 improves Frame rate on Far Cry however that wasn't the case for me.

I'm not sure why, I haven't tried it without, however on the page of this guys SweetFX config he states that it does not work with DX9.

No, not really complaining. Just wondering as to why this is happening as it doesn't seem to be the case for many others.

Because de-optimising your whole game for a few special fx wich you can't even enjoy because of the FPS-drops isn't worth it in my oppinion.

Stick with DirectX11 and find another mod i would say.
