As the title states, my computer gets extremely laggy after an hour or more of use. I start it up and it's fine but soon enouh everything (any open programs including my browser, any games and the desktop/start menu/taskbar even, etc.) start lagging like crazy.

For instance, I'll click my start menu or try to switch to another window (like Google Chrome when I currently have a movie on top) and the first window will freeze, say it isn't responding and not switch to the 2nd window for 10+ seconds. When it finally does, the window goes white and it says it has stopped responding for another 10-15 seconds. Everything will do this until I restart my PC, then it is magically fine again. It's really annoying to have to restart my PC every 45-60 min :(

I am fairly certain it is not my video card or power supply, as both are under 2 months old and neither get hot at all (I have 4 fans going so nothing gets very hot in there, even while lagging). All of my drivers and Windows itself are up to date, and I regularly tun CCleaner and Advanced System Care Pro (at least once a day). My computer gets shut down whenever I'm not using it, including overnight. I clean out my fans and the inside of my computer at least once every two weeks with canned air, q-tips, etc.

My computer info:

    Windows 7 64-bit
    4 GB Ram
    Intel Core i5-2500 CPU @ 3.30GHz
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti
ASUS Mobo (unsure of model # atm)
Let me know if you need any other info!

Basically I am mostly trying to figure out what the best way to pinpoint the exact issue would be, hopefully myself but I'm also willing to take it into GeekSquad or whatever too. Any help, advice, etc. is appreciated! Thanks in advance :)

i used microsoft security essentials until just recently. Recent stats are that mse gets less than 70% of viruses. avg gets 100% and 97% day 0 viruses. So i'd do what i did. uninstall mse and install avg.
get more ram. Also how are you measuring the temperatures to know if things are getting hot? have you actually tried a program like hwmonitor or speedfan? Also, are you using any antivirus? get avg free edition and malwarebytes free and run a full scan with them. Is your hard drive near full? that can also slow things down. you could have a corrupt windows install. reinstall may be something you need to do also.

I use Microsoft Security Essentials + Malwarebytes. I would like to pinpoint the problem before I start purchasing new computer parts so I don't waste money on something that doesn't need to be fixed, but more ram might be the solution. I've tried hwmonitor and the temps all seemed to be a bit normal. I run it + the chkdsk /r and report back!
