I'm building a gaming pc for the first time and need help, my budget is $800-950 and I need a good, solid build. Help would be highly appreciated

I like this build for you. Only changes I would make is to get a Crucial MX100 256GB SSD (on sale on newegg for $95 right now) instead of that Kingston one. And windows will cost you another $80-$90. But then that puts you at around $1,000. So if $950 is your top limit, I'd swap the 970 for a 770.

The mx100 is a better ssd, but if you need to change the gpu to be able to do that, then its not worth it. And the 770 is not very good for the price right now, you can get the 290 for the same money and it absolutely destroys it.
