Performance boost from upgrading RAM processor and Motherboard

I recently decided to do a much needed upgrade to my system. I previously had a gigabyte motherboard with DDR2 800 ram 8GB, and a Phenom II 955 BE @3.8 GHZ. I purchased a 990FX Gigabyte motherboard with 8GB of GSKILL Sniper series RAM @1866 along with a 8350 AMD FX processor @4.0GHZ. I currently have a EVGA GTX 760 SC 2GB VRAM.

My question is... will I notice a difference in gaming fps/performance? There are certain games like WOW and Shadow Warrior where I'm just not getting the performance I think I should from a halfway decent card with my older processor and RAM.

If you are asking if you will have to do a clean install of Win7 when you change the MB, the simplest answer is yes. Win will have to set itself up based on the MB components it sees when it installs.
There is a chance that you will be able to boot to your existing installation of Win7 with the new board, tho. If the components are somewhat similar and Win7 can load its new...

Probably not much. The RAM will be a small bump. The board won't matter much, there will be some minor improvement with the faster hyper transport speed. But the card and the CPU is what will still hold you back from any meaningful performance improvement. Nevertheless, the new board now allows you some upgrade capability with its AM3+ socket that you didn't have before.

I guess my long winded question could be summed up into one. Was my previous system bottlenecking my 760 GTX? I guess if that is not the case I'm really disappointed with my purchase of the 760 gtx. I thought I would get better performance out of that with games like D3 and WOW. I seriously thought my cpu and RAM was underperforming.

BTW I will be OC the 8350 when I get it. Actually I'm curious what I can get out of that chip on a hyper 212 plus. I notice you have both the same processor and mobo.

Well... I guess it may have been. The 955BE @ 3.8 is faster than the PhII X4 980. I know it can keep up with the GTX 760. So maybe I'm wrong. The only thing left would be the board and its memory. But I didn't think it would be that bad.
Do you have a lot of junk running in the background when you game? Check your tray for stuff you can disable.
Maybe run CCleaner and do the Clean and Registry portions both in case software conflicts, registry errors, and junk files are holding you back. https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download
Any virus or malware going on? Might be eating clock cycles.

I keep a clean system so I think. I don't have any sluggish behavior in normal use/ hitches and or unresponsive application use. Actually another question; I was wondering if I need to reinstall Win7. Socket is the same, I can actually run the current phenom II I have with the mobo I purchased... but the chipset is newer and of course the processor.

There is a chance that you will be able to boot to your existing installation of Win7 with the new board, tho. If the components are somewhat similar and Win7 can load its new drivers as needed, it can sometimes struggle its way to the desktop. Give it awhile to install all the new drivers it finds that it needs. Then it will have you reboot. But the registry will be a jumbled mess. I would recommend running both CCleaner and Auslogic free registry cleaner afterwards to clean up the mess that the registry will be in. I've gone that route several times, myself.

My FX-8350 is using a small Corsair C60 120mm AIO cooler. But the 212 EVO is just as efficient in my opinion. I also have 2 of those as well. That's what's cooling my Phenom II X4 965BE. The fan on the 212 EVO is slightly quieter than the one on the C60.

I will just format and start from scratch. I'm glad that you are getting a really good OC with just air. I was worried because I read that some people claimed that you need liquid to get a decent OC. My hyper 212 plus probably has been one of my most cost effective/performance purchases ever. 30 bucks? Awesome.

The efficiency of most 120mm liquid coolers (AIO) is about the same as the better air coolers of the same size. You need to move to 240mm radiators to see a difference. That's not to say there aren't some 120mm liq coolers that can exceed the efficiency of other ones. My C60 is somewhat middle of the road.

Generally, AIO coolers take up less room in the case than comparable air coolers.
