I'm gonna keep this short for us all because I'm very frustrated at my situation and I'm sure you guys don't want to read paragraphs. Basically I can't seem to run any games on my pc after updating my gpu. I have a dual core 3.1 cpu amd phenom 2 X II 550, 4gb 400hz ddr2 ram, cit pentium 4 Model: 550u psu that i can not for the life of me work out the wattage and what not of, and an amd radeon hd 6950 cayman gpu on vista business 32 bit. I could run skyrim in ultra high graphics at 40 fps at first, for a minute or two. Then it cut out when i tried to screenshot. Reloaded it and cut out when i tried to go outside. Got outside somehow and it crashed when i tried to wait and also when i tried to screenshot. Tried running dayz and it looked stunning on high for a few minutes and then suddenly became unbarably slow. felt like about 5 fps from about 40+fps. I've had to hook my psu up via on 6 pin and a 2x4 pin to 6 pin converter. I feel like and have asked a pc shop if it's a psu issue and i need to upgrade, but i'm super, super broke and just lost my job, so if i can avoid upgrading I'm obviously going to. Do you guys think it's a psu issue? If you can suggest anything else then go ahead.

Can't really tell, looks like dual rails w/16AMPs on each.....don't know it so would be leery, maybe someone that's more familiar with it will chime in, I'd go with a different one

You basically need a 500 w/ about 30 AMPs on the 12 volt rail, there should be a lable on your PSU with the info, or if you can tell us the Model # of the PSU.... Another thing might be the age of the PSU, if it's older it may not be putting out the full voltage it's rated for, PSUs can degrade over time

I believe it to be the cti pentium p4 model: 550U ATX switching power supply. I found this picture of it. http://images.esellerpro.com/2131/I/740/51/DCP_0527.JPG

I think this is it and this has the spec on but i have no clue how to work out this rail system as it says 12v and 12 a all over the place :/. http://www.amazon.co.uk/550W-Gold-Silent-Power-Supply/dp/B000KND4M8.

Another quick question. If it was a psu issue woul it crash to blue screen or desktop?

I think it could be 2-3 years old as I believe, but can not be certain that it came out of an uncles old gaming rig.

Cheers for helping bud. I've been screwing for like 2 days over this.

Could be power supply. My guess is when it starts to go under full load its not getting enough power.
A 15 amp 12v rail 550w of delivered power PSU is recommended for that card. 15 amp/600w power supply should get you by safely.

Maybe this card isn't delivering the true 550w you need to power the card easily? I'm pretty sure your usage will be a fraction over 500w so there isn't much margin for error.

Do you know anyone with a spare power supply so you can test this theory?
