It depends on 3 major things.

1. Does your current processor bottleneck the system?

2. Will your PSU be able to supply the required wattage for your GPU?

3. What is your budget for the GPU?

I'd recommend a GTX 970 if you have the budget for it, as they're relatively power efficient and shouldn't be an issue for a 500W PSU.

1. Don't know what that means.

2. That's what I'm trying to find out here.

3. Let's say about $100-150.

And I can run GTX 970?!

Okay, thanks for the answers! Didn't know my PC can still handle GTX 760.

How about $100 GPU?

I'm running Skyrim, Civ V, GTA IV and Batman Series on my PC. And I can also run Autocad, but not render stuff. And my current GPU is a measly HD4650.

Huh that's weird, doesn't the GTX 970 have a TDP of 145W? It should be able to support the 970 no?

yes the efficiency of maxwell is really good , but you are forgetting all the other components (CPU, HDD etc etc)

And his CPU will definitely hold back his GPU

the official recommended req is a 600W/650W psu but the min i would go is a 550w , wouldnt want a less powered PSU frying/throttling down your system

the problem is with your CPU , even if you get a 760 your CPU will hold your rig back.

a 100$ GPU for gaming wont do you any good , due to the gen leap(and the unoptimized games) the req of games are becomming really high

Ahh okay true it's wise not to be treading on thin ice yea. I would go with these cards mentioned in these posts, do temper your expectations especially if you're thinking on spending abit more than a $100. However, if you're willingly to look back last gen, you perhaps could consider the HD7770. I've heard good things about it but have never personally used it.

Okay, since you said that even a 760 will hold my CPU back, what's the best GPU for my CPU that can be supported by my PSU?

Btw, thanks for all the answer guys!

R9 280 or GTX 770. They won't bottleneck & your PSU will handle it easily.
