Hi,

Recently I needed to reinstall windows 7 on my laptop and there was a mishap in the install the caused the hard drive to freeze the laptop so I couldn't even enter bios when it was plugged into the laptop. I saved the hard drive by deleting all the corrupt info on it after plugging it into my desktop. I then did a partial install of windows 7 and took the laptop hard drive out of my desktop. Now every time I turn my desktop on, it asks me to pick between two windows 7's. One is the desktop hard drive that works and the other is the phantom laptop hard drive that is no longer there and doesn't boot if selected.

How do I get windows boot manager to stop seeing this imaginary partition?
Thanks!

Common mistake, you should have disconnected the desktop's hard drive before commencing Windows install on the laptop hard drive.

Because you didn't do that, Windows assumed you wanted a dual-boot configuration so it's created a dual-boot menu on your desktop hard drive.

All you need to do on your desktop PC in Windows is open the System Configuration Editor (msconfig.exe), and under the "Boot" tab, delete the line which relates to the non-existent Windows, then click 'OK'

Restart Windows and the dual-boot menu should not appear.
