Problems installing Windows 8.1 on my new SSD

I just build my first gaming PC recently. I installed Windows 8.1 on it but I decided to buy an SSD for the OS. I unplugged the HDD and left the SSD plugged in the 0 SATA connector and had the CD Drive as the boot up device. After I entered the CD Key, it took about 10 minutes for the system to format the SSD. After that it took about 5 hours to install Windows but then it had a blue screen.

Second attempt, I tried to install Windows with a USB thumb drive. It took about 2 hours to get it installed. Once it rebooted, it just stayed on the Gigabyte screen saying "Getting Ready" for about 2 hours but did nothing else.

Not sure if I have a bad SSD or is it a problem with the MB or SATA cables. I know I didn't have these issues when I first installed Windows on my HDD. Any help would be appreciated.

Build?
MB - Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P
CPU - FX 8320
CPU Cooler - Corsair H60i
GPU - EVGA GTX 760 SC
RAM - Hyper X 8 GB @ 1600
PSU - EVGA 750 NOVA Bronze
SSD - PNY Optima 120 GB
HDD - WD 1 TB Blue
Everything is at stock speeds.
