Why does my computer keep doing this on start up?

Just built my brand new PC almost a month ago. It's been working great for the most part.. every so often, however, i get this checkerboard pattern show up on start up. It becomes visible right before the log-in screen only after the computer's been fully shut down for a long period of time (7-8 hours). It fixes itself when i restart the computer.

I would link the picture i took myself, but my phone can't send large photo's unfortunately. I would describe it as checkerboard, uniform pattern... kind of like in this link

http://b1208.hizliresim.com/10/3/bdnm1.jpg

only in rows of three solid black diamond shapes, instead of two, and going from the bottom left to the top right.

I did recently just upgrade my 970's Driver using the GeForce Experience tool, but it has done this once or twice before that.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would reinstall those drivers and not use the nvidia experience tool (it has given me nothing but problems on my gtx970).

while installing the drivers pick the custom install then check the box for a clean install.

Unfortunately I do not. I'll try reseating/clean the card next time I open the case.

Hi,

It was somthing like yours and it was in my old old pc with a 7800gtx, first off i checked the dvi cable and it got better then when it did it again I took card out and blow any dust I could see as it was summer time,it seemed to work for a while and then one day I was using the pc and shut it down and then remembered I was wanting to look up somthing and restarted it,I had patterns all over the screen and it was just unusable. replaced it with a card from ebay for £18

I just had driver issues, lots of crashing while gaming and also failed installs. I never had the artifacts tho.

If you have another pCIE lane on your motherboard then you can try installing it there and see if that helps.

do you also have at least a 500 watt power supply

For sure, I'll probably do that next time I'm inside my PC. Mine has only crashed when sleeping. But I've turned off and on the computer several times today since this morning and it's been going strong without any artifacts.

I built the pc using the Capstone 750m, so i'm good as far as wattage goes. Thanks.
