Solution
you wouldn't need a driver for the harddrive.

You might need one for the sata controller on your motherbd, which you would get from your motherbd vendors support website. Just google for the model# of your mother and then go to the site of the vendor. Example google'ing 890fxa-ud5 brings up lots of options but since this is a Gigabyte board I go to their site. Once on the site click the support button and on the support page you will see a link to the drivers. They usually ask you to select which OS you want drivers for to make it easier.

The machine actually belongs to my brother in law and he damaged the orginal HDD. We have obtained a SATA HDD from a friend and are now trying to install Vista onto it but the message keeps coming up after asking which drive to install onto is that there are no drives and to install necessary driver.

Its showing no drives are available to install to most likely because neither one is empty...

Reinstall and on that part click on the "Drive options (advanced)" option Link. From there it should show you the drives and allow you to delete the existing partitions. When you are done deleting the partitions, select it again and then click ok.

- If no drives are shown on the the "Drive options (advanced)" option, then you need to install the sata controller driver using the "Load Drivers" link on the same screen. Again, you would get these drivers from your motherbd vendors support site (or if this is pre-built, like a Dell, then from Dells support site for that model#)
