The limit I placed on the System Volume File resets itself without even rebooting.

I am trying to limit the size of the System Volume Information files. I followed the instructions to use vssadmin to set a "Maxsize" and it seems to immediately work, cutting the 6gb file down to the 2 I've requested. However, when I get back to work the next day the file is back up to 5 or 6gb. This is without actually resetting the computer.
I assume someone is going to ask why I want it limited. My drive was partitioned too small by a coworker and I just don't have the time to re-format the drive. The partition is not extendable in disk management.

Thank you!

It's actually a common practice to set the min and max page file size to be the same, it prevent defragenting of the hard drive in the area the page file is written to.

Set the min and max size directly in Windows under Advanced system settings > Advanced Tab, Performance, reboot and check the size.

If the drive was partitioned "too small" this would imply that there is another partition as well. Could you simply relocate files to the other partition to regain some usable free space on the system partition? You could specify which partition the page file resides on (choose the non-system partition). If there are large applications, you could re-install them on the non-system partition as well to help conserve space on the system partition.

Hope this helped!
