Hello internet,

I am using a Dell Vostro 3350 on Windows 8.1 pro, with all appropriate drivers and virus-free. Also i myself am a 2nd year computer science student and there is this dangling problem that bugs me more than C compiler (pun intended!).

Windows's taskhost.exe is causing me overheating problems when i left my laptop anywhere other than a flat surface. This process consumes exactly 25% every time i check it in Manager's details tab. I have done all i could, even trying to ignore it, but everything i do does not stop this taskhost.exe from eating up my cpu usage and increase my power bill or risk having my laptop breaking from overheating. I have tried disabling RAC task, set exceptions in my anti virus, use EMET4.0... anything you can google about this problem, probably i tried it. And sadly none of them works.

However one thing i notice is no one ever spoke of this occurring on laptops such as mine. IMPORTANTLY, when my laptop is not plugged in (to the wall) and is idle, taskhost.exe DOES NOT run and use 25% of my cpu. In fact it behaves like every other laptop should, idling.... And for anyone who took or taking discrete math, with this implies that so that means when i plug my laptop in to the wall and left it idle, boom goes taskhost.exe.

Please help me, I literally gave up on this error.

Thanks internet.

Unfortunately you only have a dual core laptop. Windows 8.1 isn't quite all that optimized as people think. I would check you start up by right clicking the task bar>task manager>startup and disable all programs that do not need to be activated on start up. I would also try downloading malwarebytes. I know you said you are virus free but this will double check that for you.

I did ran a Malwarebytes on my laptop, fortunately and unfortunately it found nothing. I would be very happy if this was just a malware and get it done with but nope, it just has to be Windows 8. The reason i strongly believe its Windows's fault as i said earlier, this only happens when im plugged in and idle. If im on battery mode, i can leave the laptop on for hours idle without any noise cause the CPU is doing nothing an throttling down so the fan wouldn't be spinning.

Also even though my laptop is only a Sandy Bridge Dual Core, but it has Hyper-Threading which makes it okay/acceptable in most cases. I believe Windows's kernel have adapted to its architecture.

(update) Just ran another scan for safety and found nothing. Here is the log output:
