I'm in the process of puting together a new computer and this is what i have put together this far:

Intel Core i7 5820K 3,3GHz Socket 2011-3 Box
Asus GeForce GTX 970 Strix DirectCU II OC HDMI DP 2xDVI 4GB
MSI X99S Gaming 7
OCZ Radeon R7 Series SATA III 2.5" SSD 240GB
Seagate Barracuda® 3TB
Fractal design R5
Fractal Design Integra M 750W
Samsung DVD Writer, SH-224DB
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo ggr 2
HyperX Predator DDR4 2800MHz 16GB

What do you think of this?

The i5 will be plenty powerful. The psu will just need to be more watts. You should go for 1,000 - 1,200w for a dual 980 setup.
For the memory, i'd recommend something in the 2133 range if you plan on overclocking, but if not overclocking, then 1600.
For a motherboard, i prefer asus and gigabyte.

Yes, we must know.

If gaming, then i'd recommend you step back on the CPU and go with an i5 4690K as that is all you will need. Then upgrade the GPU to a 980.

I'd recommend you change over your SSD choice to either a Samsung EVO or a Crucial MX100 as they are more reliable.

Lastly, change the power supply to either a Seasonic or an XFX as they are higher quality. Also, unless you are planning to add a 2nd graphics card later, you should be ok with a 620-650W unit.

well, although you can purchase these parts if you would like, there is definately money to be saved.
the CPU and MB are not useful to you. ultimately, you are spending money on cpu, mb, and ram that doesnt need to be spent for your purposes. even the 4790k is more than you would really need. if your main purpose is gaming with some photoshop editing, i would say go with an i5 and save yourself a few hundred dollars. in fact, the money you save, you could use to spend money on a better PSU. the one you have could be replaced with something much better.

other than the PSU, nothing bad with the build as i can see, but you are definately spending money on something you dont really need. in the end, its up to you, but that is my 2 cents

I'm thinking of going for 4790K and a Z97 board with a GTX 980 card. The SSD and PSU is something I also have thought about and will probably change them. I also wonder if there will be any problems in the future if I want to run dual GTX 980 with this setup?

The i5 4690K will give me the cpu power that I need? Psu needs to be of better quality. Which motherboard and what frequency on the memory would you recommend?

Intel i7 4790K
ASUS GTX 980
MSI Z97 GAMING 7, Socket-1150
Crucial MX100 SSD 256GB 2,5" 7mm
Seagate Barracuda or Western Digital (3TB total)
Fractal design R5
EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750W
Samsung DVD Writer, SH-224DB
EVO 212 * 2
HyperX Beast DDR3 2400MHz 16GB or HyperX Savage DDR3 2400MHz 16GB or Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR3 2400MHz 16GB.

This is my new configuration. Does anyone have an opinion about the motherboard, HDD and/or the memories? I'm also thinking about going for a 512 SSD and only a 1TB or 500Mb HDD. Will the cooling also be adequate?

This setup will actually not save me much money but as you guys have pointed out the gaming experience will be better with an GTX 980.

That will be a great gaming setup. I wouldn't go with more than a 256GB SSD. The only thing that will improve by putting your games on an SSD is the loading of new levels. In-game framerates wont be affected. A 3TB HDD will be much more important as you amass a collection of games (my 1TB drive is almost full).
