I have bought SAS 450GB Ultrastar HDD by mistake!!! i thought it will fit SATA... but ...
as you already understand my mobo has only SATA 3 ports
So how to make it work anyway ? i mean with 15000 RPM and all features

I thought that its simply need SAS to SATA 3 Converter cable
and i have bought this cable (i was wrong i guess... because it appears that i need a controller )
I noticed one more thing some SAS PCI controllers have SATA inputs on board
if i use them will SATA cable loose the RPM or sth like that ?

i did some research recently and stopped on that solution :
1) Buy the controller (this one)

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002RL8I7M/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=11QKDDAOJWH26&coliid=I1C8R0T2D1MV22

connect to my x99 (non server) motherboard

2)Buy the correct cable (this one)

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B008KF7H8U/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=11QKDDAOJWH26&coliid=I202QDW21RTJ57

i need to know are the cable that i have chosen a correct one ??

and in general .. Is my solution correct ? Thanks a lot ...

Would you be able to provide a full systems specs to verify if you actually don't have an X99 mobo that has a SAS controller onbaord.

^ simply explains what each drive is so you can differentiate them.

My personal advice would be to return the drive, although your mistake, I think you you would find it in your best interest to contact the people from who you purchased it off of via phone/email and explain the matter to them. You're trying to run a server grade device in a desktop environment. In reality that would be more cost effective in terms of spending, shipping and ofc down time on your machine besides you save on ~$300 that is equal to a mid ranged gaming GPU or 2x 4TB platter drive.

BTW, welcome to Tom'sHardware Newcommer!

Ah lovely :)

As per your SAS drive I can't, with my knowledge of current prices of a HDD, suggest shelling out another ~$300 on getting a low capacity drive to work. SAS drives are meant for an enterprise/storage server so as to retrieve data quick and easily. 450GB of that HDD won't be as fast as an SSD either so in reality you're actually.

Maybe hold onto your SAS drive and reserve it for a server sometime down the road? You could also purchase a 250GB ssd and a large(1~2TB) platter HDD with that amount including shipping for the cost it'll take you to set up the 450GB SAS HDD.

In short, you're asking me to amputate the leg that you shot. No offence :)
