I have a fx 6300 with 8 gb of ram 1 hdd r9 280x 650 watt kingwin psu and tons of cooling yet computer shuts off and goes to blinking with powerlight

Sounds like a bad PSU. Try reseating all boards and connections to make sure there's no issue there. But you may need a new PSU.

you dont need a 800 watt or a 700 watt psu .......just buy a decent 650 watt psu from well know brand like antec seasonic coolermaster crossair xfx .............good luck
