Hello,
I'm not the best with computers and need some help to decide what to spend my money on. At the moment i mostly play World of Warcraft and would like to be able to play on the highest settings without frame rate issues.

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770k @ 3.50GHz (untouched) with basic cheap fan cooling
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 590
MB: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming
RAM:16G
Storage: Some 240G SSD and 1TB HDD
Chassi: Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
3 monitors

I have about 1000$ to spend.

Solution
That's what I wanted to know, so I'd do something like this, keeping in mind that you'll need an active displayport adapter for the third monitor which you probably already have if you currently are using a triple monitor configuration. You should also edit your original post to say G41 motherboard as there is no G47 board.

And if you are not outputting the game to all three displays, you do not need SLI or CF. You can easily use your current card to display your two desktop screens and the new GPU to run gaming on the third screen or use the new GPU for two screens and the old GPU for the third. Actually, depending on your monitor resolution you might be able to use the new GPU for all three. I run three screens off an R9 280 with no...
What you have now is quite good just sell the GTX 590 and get 2 x gtx 970 and a 750 watt PSU also get an aftermarket cooler and OC the CPU for better results.

Your CPU is solid! You could "double" your GPU performance by upgrading to a GTX 970 (around 330 USD).

You could also consider the fastest (realistically priced) single card available, the GTX 980 for around 540 USD. Just make sure your PSU can meet the necessary wattage requirements, and make sure your case can fit those larger cards!

If you play WoW on all 3 monitors, perhaps look into SLI 970's or 980's for insane performance! Again, check with your PSU here.

Brandon, the GTX 980 is by no means the fastest single card available. It's just the fastest COMMON and realistically PRICED card available. Clearly the R9 290x2 kills it as does the Titan Z. But we knew what you meant.

I totally forgot about the PSU.. I currently have a XFX ProSeries Core Edition 850W PSU, and I'm guessing that's enough?
I don't really enjoy eyefinity gaming and use all 3 monitor separately.

Will you be planning to overclock the new hardware?
I'm probably gonna overclock it, yes.

Depends on what graphics setting I play on. Medium works fine, but ultra ***** my fps when there's a lot of effects, etc.

You PSU is good enough for any dual card setup and more than enough for gtx 970 if you go for it.
You have a good budget if you want to play games at ultra with a 3 monitor setup then you have to go for a SLI or CF setup currently gtx 970 is a great option for you and you have a good budget for the cards and the cooler.

Actually, depending on your monitor resolution you might be able to use the new GPU for all three. I run three screens off an R9 280 with no problem, even gaming. All screens are 1080 BUT I don't use an eyefinity or surround configuration either, but since you don't plan to do that, it shouldn't be an issue.

And, just to clarify, you can use two GPUs in a non SLI or CF configuration for multiple screen displays when necessary or desired. Sometimes this works better than using a displayport adapter as it keeps all non-gaming loads off the gaming GPU.

Either way, I'd replace the motherboard now since you plan to overclock. Your current board is a turd for overclocking and has poor power phase and VRM components.
