TL;DR, thoughts on the ASUS M5A97 LE R2? Plan to use with an FX 8320, 660ti, no overclocking. Able to get for $35+tax. Used as spare computer for light gaming.

Hi everyone,

Looking through my spare computer parts, I realized I have almost enough to throw another computer together that I will leave at my parents house for light-medium gaming use. I plan to buy some budget parts to finish up this computer. I already have the PSU (Seasonic M12II), GPU (660ti), case (Cooler Master HAF-X), 8gb of crucial ballistic RAM, and a spare SSD. This means I just need a motherboard and a CPU.

Luckily my microcenter is having a deal where I buy an AMD cpu and I get $50 off a motherboard. I have never used AMD before, always intel, but I don't want to go all out for a computer that I might only use for a couple weeks out of the year. I planned on getting an FX 8320, and the ASUS M5A97 LE R2. I wanted to get some thoughts on this motherboard before I pulled the trigger. I am fully aware this is nowhere near top of the line. I don't plan on doing any overclocking or running any crazy hardware configs.

Its the Philadelphia Microcenter, so if anyone sees any better boards, I am more than open to suggestions. http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/26ebb92c#/26ebb92c/34

I'm not too fond of asus these days .. and I guess you don't see into the link I gave as I do..

but like with anything . you get it fire it up and it will work as you expect or it don't .. that's with anything .. you buy you try and hope It don't make you cry
I don't see why it should not be fine but theres always that chance of a lemon popping up ... a 100 folks can tell you its the best and you may go for it just to find its not best for you ??? roll the dice

so if your interested in it all you really can do is go for it and see

I did a quick search of the forums before and I couldnt find too many posts recommending/not recommending the board. The majority of them are the "will part X work with part Y" or issues. I knew about the lack of VRM heatsink and USB 3.0 header. I was just looking for thoughts if this would be an issue considering how little I will be using it.

Ok thanks for the thoughts. I might just spend like 15 dollars more and get the version with better power delivery, VRM heatsink and USB 3.0 to be safe.

And just to let you know, I didn't make a post for the debate between the FX8320 and FX6300, as there are already a billion threads about that ;)

why not ?? you got spare compatible parts to use on it its cheap on sale what the heck ?? like I said theres only 2 ways it can go 1- works good your happy 2- nothing but izssues and your not happy -- like I said that's with anything these days -- you never know what you got until after you hit the start switch

as long as the chips are on the boards supported cpu list there should be no big issues??

i'll leave this at that and say good luck
