Hello,
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and I have been experiencing quite an annoying problem on my PC, which is as it follows:
whatever program is working, freezes, audio (if there is any) continues, the screen turns black, then starts up again and everything is as if nothing had happened. After all of this, a balloon (windows notification) on the right-hand side of the screen pops up and says that the display driver has stopped responding and has successfully recovered.
Now this problem started occurring after I bought a new motherboard and a new CPU. The new motherboard is ASRock FM2A55M-HD+ and the new CPU is AMD Kaveri Athlon II X4 860K, my GPU by that time was a ASUS GeForce GT 640.
I got a new GPU which now is Asus AMD Radeon R9 270X OC DirectCU II, 2048MB, GDDR5. My PSU is 600W, I have UPS and the problem still occurs.

Fixes I have tried:
- Updating every driver;
- Updating windows;
- Reinstalling windows;
- Testing every part of the hardware - everything turned out okay;
- Overheating test - GPU and CPU do not overheat;
- PSU - working properly;
- TDR - didn't solve it;
- Checking for viruses, malware, etc - none;
- Benchmark tests - no problems there;
- Every cable in the PC is connected properly;
- Running everything in its stock settings;
- Searching and cleaning errors in the registry;

The last crash was while I was loading utilities for installation from a CD and opening mozilla.
Results from testing components don't turn in any errors but the crashes still occur and it seems to be on random occasions.. I can't seem to find any sort of a pattern. I've watched movies for hours without a single crash, Valley benchmarks were ran for 6+ hours on high without any errors.
I'm using two monitors, both connected via DVI cables in the video card.

Any suggestions/opinions/comments will be appreciated.

Fortron HYPER 600, 600W, Active PFC

[update]
My PC just crashed and all I had running is Firefox with 3 tabs open. Didn't really do much, just hovered with the cursor over one of them when everything froze, the screens turned black and switched on again with the windows notification. An hour or so before that I played Mortal Kombat Komplete edition for a good hour without a problem whatsoever.

The R9 serie of AMD is very bad. Much much problems. The only drivers which are a little bit stable are < 14.0

The other drivers causes much Blue Screens. So you should use an older driver. I know not a good solution (its not really a solution) but i think you will get rid of the Blue Screens.

r9 series cards are excelent top of the line cards..

14.12 is the most stable driver ever built by AMD

@Graphics card Master

Never reached the 14.12 driver.

with 14.4 there were Avira Crashes with AMD driver
with 14.6 there were Blue Screen because of Youtube AMD driver

And now the graphiccard is gone for month !

So 14.12 maybe is working better, but i guess its the same because the Youtube BSODs (Blue Screens) are famous for AMD and there since ever ?

what?

problems are common for nvidia too

i solve hundreds of questions.. i get complaints from nvidia and amd..

You dont have to share my experience with AMD. I never want to enrage someone. Like i said i only can say what i read, what my familly and friends telling me and what experience i had with NVidia graphiccards and amd graphiccards.

Sure both have problems. But i never noticed much problems with Nvidia (5x Nvidia - no problems) (1x Ati - flickering and other weired stuff) (1x amd - much Blue Screens on a clean system)

Thats only my experience. You have good experience. Thats fine. Share it with us !

flickering can occour if you
have a broken card or
a very bad quality PSU or
shortage on PSU wattage

what is your PSU brand and model while using those AMD cards and what model were the cards

Well as far as I know my PSU should be good enough to work properly with my GPU. It's new (bought it two weeks ago) and the same brand has been tested on multiple other configurations and works fine. My current GPU requires 600W of power which my PSU supplies. Even more to this is that a friend of mine has configured a PC with two GPUs with the same PSU and everything worked fine.
If you truly believe my PSU is the source of the problem, could you please provide me with more information to why exactly you have come to that conclusion?

here are the points to my conclusion..

1. r9 270x needs minimum of 650w psu as recomended by AMD to work without any problem

2. it is certified as 85 plus... its a fake certification.. the only effeciency certifications are 80 plus, 80 plus bronze, 80 plus gold, 80 plus platinum

3. there are no output info about the 12v rail config that is used to power the gpu.. it means that its probably very low to meet the regular standards

buy good quality 650w 80 plus bronze psu with good amps on 12v rail.. the problem will get fixed

I see... well.. on the GPU box states: "Minimum 500W system power supply (with a minimum 12V current rating of 24A)". Does this mean that it requires a min of 500W to run and a min of 650W to run normally?

270x will run on 500W .. but its safer with a 650W

My budget is next to nothing at the moment. But in the future, I think I could set it to 100$ for a new PSU. I don't have any preferred websites, because I don't intend on buying from sites but rather from local hardware stores.
Before I go off buying a new PSU, I think I'll try one the drivers suggested above (14.12 omega). If that fixes my problem, then I'll postpone the new PSU even further on.
If you have any other suggestions on this matter, please I would appreciate them.
Oh and thank you for your help so far!

if the drivers fix your problem then that would be great news

my card used to rarley give crash and give artifacts .. i was just abt to RMA it, then i saw thaat a stable driver is released .. it was the 13.12 omega.. i uninstalled the old one and installed omega.. havent had a problem since and graphics performance has been a lil better
