Should I upgrade my pc or buy a next gen console?

Ok, So a year ago or so I built myself a new computer as it's so much cheaper.

It has a AMD A10 (quad-core) processor, 8gb memory, 500gb HD and the cheapest graphics card I could find.

So now I have a bit more cash to spare, the time has come for an upgrade.

The choice is either the ease of the next gen or an upgrade, but I don't know if the upgrade would be worth it.

I would get a i7 (quad) 4GHz and a £150 or up graphics card. Which would cost more than next gen.

Thoughts? - Thanks

Yes, keep in mind the swap to intel means a new mobo, buy a cheap i5, like the i5-4440, a decent "H87 or H97" mobo, and put the rest toward a R9 290 or GTX 970 (whichever is cheaper there). Would be good to know your PSU model as well.

(i7 is only for people who say things like "I can't get my encoding done in time for the clients deadline!)
