Best 27" LED monitor for around £300 - £350?

In adventure/RTS/RPG/etc games, sure. In FPS and other fast paced games, the difference between a 5ms response and a 1ms response is significant even to a casual gamer. You movements feel more accurate. It's the reason almost all monitors labelled as "gaming" have a 1-2ms response time.

Also, an IPS panel will generally only have a 5ms response time if the circuit is very short - i.e. the only connector is a single DVI port. anything more and the refresh time goes up.

Having said that, an IPS panel will be sharper than a TN with a wider viewing angle and I personally use an IPS panel because at the time I bought it, it was the only way to get 2560x1440 resolution at 120hz.

i suggest you stick to it... overclock it to 144 if you need to..

the 4ms difference has no effect and is just a marketing ploy

Also, if you're going to go down this road, you'll see the biggest difference if you consider full end-to-end input lag as an issue.

This is old, but you can see a huge difference in the optimized signal chain, cutting out about 70ms of input lag over default configuration.

one modern addition to the tutorial here - if you have g-sync or adaptive v-sync, you'l want to enable that setting.

Cheers!

if you're playing at 120hz+, a 4ms difference means that half the time, your input arrives a frame later than someone with a 1ms refresh rate. That's life and death for a pro gamer, but it still can be an annoyance for the casual.

Check out the article I linked about. It's like car modding, 4hp may not seem like much for one mod, but all the mods together add up really quick.

you have a point...

pro gamers need tn

but i usualy suggest ips to regular folk
