Specifically for the r9 285. I was helping my friend build his PC under a tight budget, and both XFX and Powercolor came down to $200. I told him to get the Powercolor because I've never heard of XFX brand, but how is it? There's still time to change the order if XFX is better.

bgunner, that's what I thought about the cooler too, but the screws had "warranty void if removed" stickers on them. I wanted to clarify before the RMA period ran out, and got only automated, meaningless acknowledgement messages for a few days. I'd already spent time monkeying with clocks and settings, and didn't want to wait any longer. It raised a yellow flag, but my other XFX cards had all been great, so I'd still buy XFX ahead of many other AMD board partners.

If you can be bothered, get the XFX one. In my experience, they are good, and (I presume you are getting the Double Dissipation model), have a better cooler, and look much sleeker. Its really six and half a dozen though.

XFX has been out for many years and is a very reputable Brand. This is not to mention many if not all of there GPU's come with a lifetime warranty. I have owned 2 GPU's from them and have been very happy with the quality of them. Powercolor Is a much newer brand than XFX and I have had very little experience with them because of this.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that with XFX changing the stock cooler to an aftermarket cooler will not void the warranty. If something happens all you need to do is reattach the stock cooler and send the card in under an RMA. This is actually out lined on there web site that this is allowed.

XFX is always a better choice than: Powercolor, Diamond and Visiontek.

In terms of performance you'll get pretty much the same, but for a better lifetime build. Go XFX you also get life time warranty for parts and labor. When Powercolor only give 2 years for parts and labor.

In your place, although I might have ordered the XFX in the first place, I don't think it is worth the hassle of changing.
I have bought cards from both brands. Both have been mostly good, UNTIL I got a XFX HD7970. It may have had a defective cooler, because it howled and ran hot. XFX Support did not get back to me in a timely manner about whether or not I could reseat it without voiding the warranty, so I sent it back for a Gigabyte WF3 model instead. Although that card is huge, its cooler works very well, and quietly.
I have never had to contact Powercolor support, although the cards I've bought from them have all been really low-end. I have seen a guy from their support, "Hugo" I believe, actually replying to customer comments on Newegg, although to be fair I think I've seen XFX there as well.
Edit: I wouldn't touch Diamond with a 10' cable. They're on my personal "Do Not Buy" list for a multitude of sins. Although its old news (mostly based on events concerning a HD3870), nothing leads me to believe I have anything to gain by buying a Diamond, vs. any number of their competitors.

@Onus, Due to XFX warrant policy reseating the coolers and replacing them do not void warranty. If an issue arises and you need to send the card in all you need to do is send the card in with the stock cooler attached. They may have updated there FAQ since your experience with them. It now clearly states these are allowed.

@OP, Unlike Onus's experience with XFX support I have contacted them for both of my GPU's I have from them and they have returned am email within 24-36 hours every time. The support page states to allow them up to 5 days, which is unreasonable IMO, but I have never had to wait longer than 36 Hours to get a response. --- neither of my cards required an RMA. It turned out to be AMD's drivers causing issues and not the cards.

Also like Powercolor responding to comments on newegg, XFX does do the same as I have seen them myself there.
