All the good brands (MSI, Asus, Asrock, Gigabyte) has their mobo's BIOS Updated before shipping. Since you have a 860k Buy a FM2+ mobo. If you order the mobo and it needs to be updated you can buy a A4 for $20-40 or go to a computer store and ask them to update it for you.

Do you have any suggestions on motherboards under $70?

Hey mate, this post was from a while ago but I was curious to know how your PC went. I'm building with the same CPU and I'm gonna pick up that mobo now. Cheers

All seems to be going well I have not had any problems with the cpu or board, I have not overclocked anything but I don't think it would have a hard time with that. Good luck with your build :)

I'm having similar issue with this cpu. X4 860 k amd Athlon fm2+ on an Msi a78m-e35 board. Initially worked out of box but after trying to update board bios now doesn't initialize graphics card. Tried 3 different cards, none initializing. Reset cmos not working. This cpu has no graphics integrated. Replaced board with Msi a78m-e45 and same issue right out of the box. Previously tested ddr3 ram with memtest and no errors.put in an older amd dual core 7300 apu and comes right on. Even when was able to boot with the x4 860k I was getting constant bsod...dpc watchdog violation, Irq not less or equal, memory mgmt. all seem to point to memory but ram seems fine. Put in new ram and same issue. This cpu does control memory so that's the issue. I'm going to just take it back, could just be a bad cpu but I don't think I like these CPUs with no integrated graphics as no fallback if doesn't work with a graphics card. The fm2 7300 seems fine and I would say actually seems faster and so far no bsod. Anyone else having issues with this cpu or know any fix?

most motherboards you have to update the bios before installing that cpu. i bought the same one, as well as an asus a88x-pro mobo and i still had to update the bios first. good thing about that mobo tho is that it has a usb bios flashback that makes it really easy to update the bios (as well as hard to break something while updating). you dont even need to have the cpu connected the the mobo. just your power supply and a usb with the update file on it. takes a few mins then its good to go. really simple and fast
