Can I upgrade my processor from intel core i5 to Intel core i7?

There is no i9, but if you know which processors are compatible with your board then yes you can. The chip is not soldered on.
As it seems it is a laptop you can't upgrade the cpu. In general there are very few upgrades you can do to laptops since most components are soldered in and can't be changed. There are some manufacturers that build laptops that have exchangeable parts, but those are rare and usually cost quite a bit more. On a regular laptop you can usually add more RAM or change the hard drive and that's about it.

Actually on many laptops the CPU is not soldered to the board, and can be upgraded if you are using a proper chip with the same socket and you know where to find the chipset driver. I have done it myself a few times. It is especially easy with an AMD platform mainboard.

You have replaced a laptop cpu(pointed at IamTimTech)? Most of the laptops that i have opened had the heatsink attached to the socket via soldering. So my answer is no.

Some not all. I replaced the AMD S1 processor in my own DV6. Newer laptops this is probably not possible but I did it just fine on mine.
