M5A97 R2.0 No post, lots of reading/testing

Hey all. Having issues with my first build. I cant seem to get this sytem to do anything...

Components:

M5A97 R2.0
Kentek 680W PSU 2 24+4PIN
AMD FX-8350
Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB DDR3 1600 BLS8G3D1609DS1S00 (mem tested for 24 hours)
Radeon 220 fresh out of the box.

Heres the scenario..

Plug in PSU, turn it on, turn computer on, green power light comes on, CPU fan comes to life and then nothing. The system just hums away post post beeps or anything. Nothing on the screen.

I've triple checked everything, all the connections, CPU, RAM in every slot, PSU to the board. I have no idea what the deal is. I tried resetting CMOS. A whole lot of nothingness.

Should I maybe try updating the system using the USB flashback tool? Im lost. Any help is much appreciated!

did you check your connection to the monitor? Are you sure the monitor works?

When you start it up does the little red LED's light up? there's one for CPU then it goes to GPU then it goes to boot drive check

Memhorder - Monitor is AOK. Tested on my laptop. As a ghetto test, if I plug in the VGA with the system on I see i looks for a connection under VGA.
As for LEDS, nothing comes on. im not sure this board has those actually I looked on mobo + manual. PS tried updating BIOS without any change in behavior. I'll see if I have another monitor laying around however. Let me know if you think of anything else!

Random thought. In the 8 Pin I have a four pin from the PSU. Could it be that the system needs the 8 pin because of the 8 core CPU?

No. Look at the sticker on the mobo under the barcode at the end what are the last 4 numbers?? It needs to be 1006 or higher to support that CPU

I have 0301 If you are referring to the sticker to the right of the ram (If the ram where running perpendicular to the ground). So I'm shit out of luck aye or can an Update fix this?

I dont know where it is on yours but there is a BIOS 0301 on the ASUS site. BUT if this is the right number thats the version of the BIOS thats on it now

Lucky for you according to the site this supports USB BIOS flashback

Read the manual on how to use USB BIOS flashback. So you can update the BIOS

Hmm gotcha. I updated it once VIA usb flashback. I'll try it again maybe without the CPU given that could be the weak link here.

Yup should work fine without the CPU. Thats one good thing about it

The CPU is the prob the BIOS on the mobo now wont support it without a BIOS update

Bios updated again successfully as far as i can tell. No change in behavior still :\. Let me know if you have any other ideas!

Did you plug the ATX 12 v, 24 pin, and install the CPU and fan ??All have to be connected for it to turn on

Hi, Yup I did. I just reseated the PSU lines again to test without change.

Booted via the MEMok button shes just humming away. Red light is blinking slowly indicating something, I believe its trying different settings. Been going for about a minute now. If its still blinking in another 5-10 ill let you know, unless you advise further.

When you installed the ram did you hear it click??

Clicked no problem. Ram is definitely seated correctly and is in the correct slot as per manual.

its running and the LED is still flashing away happily.

do you got another gpu laying around? The one you got could be DOA and it's not getting past that hence no display

Sadly not one that i can power. I have a Hawk 5570 but I dont have the power cable. When I had that plugged in the system gave one long continuous beep. This must have been coming from the card however as the Mobo does not have a built in buzzer.

Everything is new except the Mobo and Ram. The ram was tested for 24 hours.

The board must be dead. Relooked at the listing I purchased it from and I must have missed the "Not tested" part. Thanks for all your help!
