I have a Compaq CQ50-105AU laptop which is 6 years old. Sometime when I press the power button to start it, the HDD light lits up and nothing happens(no boot, no display).

I leave it for some hours without external power and then when I try, it boots normally. I noticed that system is losing on time and I have to set the windows clock whenever a freeze take place.

Is this a problem of failing CMOS battery. Some one can guide me if he/she has faced it with their laptops?

not keeping time means cmos battery goes out and why is start normally did you for the time it been without power the blank page could be motherboard issue due to cmos error so without having it in visual it is hard to tell if the board made it or only the cmos battery .

But why does it starts normally sometimes? Moreover usually a warning with CMOS battery low is displayed. In my case there is no display at all.
