4th gen i3 vs 1st gen i5

You can see that from the tiering list that all of the i5 from gen 1 (the i7-760) is a tier lower than the lowest gen 4 i3 on the list (the i3-4160). There are some i3's that are lower than 4160 (EG 4150, 4130 and their T variants), 4160 represents the lower end of the 4th gen i3, where as 760 is top of the first gen i5.

Hence the reason, generally, an haswell i3 is better than Nehalem i5.

There is also their respective chipsets to consider.
