I have been trying to build a good gaming pc, one that can run new games at max graphics.
are the parts i have good? should anything be replaced with something better?
also do i need/should i buy a cpu cooler?
$1250 is pretty much my limit.

and what case should i buy?

Thank you for your time.

Excellent build all around. Really nice choices.

You only need a cpu cooler if you plan to overclock, otherwise the stock cooler that comes with the CPU is fine. That said, if you are not planning on overclocking, you could save some money here. Drop off the 'k' cpu to a non-k, and get a H97 based motherboard (make sure it is one that can still crossfire as it is nice to have that option in the future).

I'd recommend taking a look at the Enthoo cases, either the Luxe or the Pro. I have the Luxe and can't say enough good about it. The Pro is $50 US cheaper than the Luxe but still very high quality. Other high quality cases include Fractal Design and Corsair.

I'd upgrade PSU to 750W in case you want a second GPU. And switch to the 970. Amazing GPU. Slap a good cooler and get an awesome case. This will max out all games at 1080p @ 60Hz:
