I have a corsair case and an internal memory card reader that has USB 3 ports on the front, the both require a dedicated USB 3.0 20pin female header slot on my mother board. I only have one, so I can only use the case's usb ports or the memory card reader's ports.

I have a Maximus Hero V2 mobo.

I bought a cable that I thought would work, but Windows only gives me errors when I try to plugin USB flash drives.

The cable I bought is a 20-Pin USB 3.0 Internal Header Y Splitter Cable (12cm)

As I said my board has only one of the 20pin ports, pictured (on left):

I also have these ports which may be for USB 2, or 3, I need to check the manual. Pictured:

Either way, the 20 pin male doesnt connect here. Should I use an adapter?

What are my options to use both the case's and memory card front panels USB 3 ports?

Solution
The red connector is the correct motherboard header for USB3. If you want a second USB3 connection to the motherboard, buy an inexpensive PCIe x1 adapter like THIS ONE that has the internal 19 pin USB 3 header as well as a couple rear external ports.
