Hi, many a year since I had a chance to build new, couple of basic questions please.

1) With the GPU power requirements - have a msi gaming GTX 970, and a cooler master psu. To power the GPU it has an 8 pin power supply and a 6 pin.

The PSU has its 2 x 6+2 Pin supply. The GPU also has an 8 Pin -> 6 Pin converter.
Should I just feed the card directly the 6+8 config or use the adapter to supply 6+6?

2) Have an i5 4690k - at this stage just running the stock supplied fan. However it doesn't mention thermal paste in the installation instructions, and isn't included (not that this means much), is it still required?

Solution
1. You can use both of the 6+2 connectors for the GPU. Plug in all 8pins to the GPU 8 pin connector, and connect just six pins to the GPU six pin connector, and just leave the last two pins off.
2. The stock fan has thermal compound already on the contact area. You don't need to add your own thermal compound.
Hope I helped. I feel like I could have phrased it a little better :)
