Just installed 8.1 pro - no network adapter?

As the title says.

I plug my ethernet cable in and then nothing happens. I trouble shooted and got the message:
Windows did not detect a properly installed network adapter. If you have a network adapter, you will need to re-install the driver.

I have a z97 gaming 5 gigabyte motherboard with an ethernet port. ......
I tried to fix it by downloading from intel website PROwinx64 to download drivers but it came up with error saying no network adapter found

No point installing an Intel driver for a Qualcomm Atheros Killer E2201 LAN chip.
