I recently replaced a broken HD 7870 with a new HD 7950, and after I uninstalled my drivers, installed the card and re-installed drivers, I began to notice issues with the card.
Firstly, a blue ribbon artifact flickers in the bottom 10% of the screen, which comes and goes, but is only ever present when something on the screen is in motion, I don't know what it means.
The second issue is BSOD crashing accompanied by the GPU fan speed accelerating to 100%. I don't know what causes this, as it happens seemingly randomly, once when ticking a box in an Explorer window, a second time when opening an antivirus application. Both times the crash was triggered by the event, so I wouldn't say it's completely random.
As to finding a solution, I have so far:
Full uninstall/reinstall of graphics drivers.
Updated my M5A78L-M/USB3 Asus motherboard BIOS from 1503 to 1801.
Uninstalled and reinstalled graphics card from the Mobo (securing wires securely) accompanying these attempts.
I don't know what the issue is, but I suspect that it could be related to my 500W PSU. I've heard that the 5950 is power hungry, but I don't know if the issues I'm experiencing are evidence of that. It is listed as a 500W card, so whilst I don't expect to be able to overclock it I definitely expect to be able to successfully launch the application to underclock it safety.
I will try it with another Mobo and PSU (500W) and see if anything changes.
I'd appreciate any insight and feedback as due to my previous card dying I spent all the money I had available to buy this card, so I am desperate for any kind of solution.
