I know the Ram not working has been beaten to death but I cannot for the life of me figure this one out. On my wife's Toshiba Satellite L675D (4GB ram, two slots, Win 7), I upgraded via Crucial Ram (from a Ram Scan) to 8GB (Max Ram for laptop). Ram is recognized in Bios but startup screen keeps blinking and it will not boot into windows. If I put the old Ram back, it works fine. I have done the following:

1. Pulled Battery (without Power cord attached)
2. Disabled USB Legacy in BIOS
3. Check BIOS and it is up to date
4. Inserted the Ram in both slots, one at a time (ie one 4GB stick in a slot) and rebooted to check and see if the Ram or Ram slot might be bad.
5. Mixed the two sets of Ram together which gives 6GB in bios but will not boot into windows.

I have removed and installed it a lot of times and know about it lining up with the pins, etc. Again, the bios recognizes it, but it wont boot into windows.

The Ram that was purchased was Crucial 8GB Kit Notebook 2x4GB DDR3 PC3-12800 Sod 1.35v/1.5v 204 Pin.

I have a similar problem...

Toshiba L455-S5000
Came with:
a 1G module in Slot 1
a 2G module in Slot 2

Win 7 Home Premium x64

I bought 2 4G Crucial modules

All modules are PC3 DDR3

BIOS sees any combination of modules correctly up to a maximum of 8G

Windows will only boot with the following configurations:

1G & 2G in any slot
1G in Slot 1 (Slot 2 is empty)
2G in Slot 2 (Slot 2 is empty)
4G in Slot 1 (Slot 2 is empty)
2G in Slot 1 and 4G in Slot 2

Any other configuration will not boot.

I have checked crucial.com, kingston.com, corsair.com and toshiba.com

All information on all sites except toshiba.com are either wrong (they state that the max is 4G or do not list this model at all). However, all these list PC3 as the only...

Now that is an interesting one. Only thing I can think of , is that the new ram is likely a different 'speed' than the old RAM, and perhaps you need to play with this or the FSB/CPU clock. See if you are able to run the ram at lower speeds, and boot into winodws. RAM should have no bearing on windows booting at all.

I have read online that the Ram can be temperamental with the Toshiba Satellites (which does not make sense). I am sending the crucial back and ordered Ram from the Toshiba website (which sold me Kingston Ram) but it was Kingston Technology 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 Single Rank SODIMM for Toshiba Laptops KTT-S3BS/4G. The Crucial Ram was 1600 Mhz as recommended per their Ram scan.

toshiba.com states that there are 3 modules available:

1G PC3
2G PC3
4G PC2 (no typo on this)

Meanwhile, the computer has been running with 6G (1 x 2G and 1 x 4G) for the last couple of days. Can anyone explain any of this to me? I have apparently missed something in the last 20+ years of doing this.

Pretty much the exact same problem here with my A660... Bought 2x 4GB Crucial as recommended and Windows 7 won't boot. Latest BIOS update shows full 8GB. Put the original 2GB Kingston in and both Crucials work when put in separately but I only get 6GB RAM. So bought two more of the same Crucial sticks... No combination will work but put the Kingston in with any of them and Windows boots no problem!!!

Can't boot into Windows Mem Diagnostics either or from a disc.

Any solutions yet?

I was able to upgrade from 4GB to 6GB. Old 2GB in the inner slot and new 4GB in the outer slot. Still not able to get the laptop to accept 4GB in the inner slot. When I install 4GB RAM sticks in each slot the computer shows 8GB in bios but refuses to boot to Windows 7. I have Toshiba Satellite L675D-S7100.
new RAM is Seifelden 4GB 2RX8 PC3-10600S-08-18, DDR3-1333MHZ SODIMM.
original RAM is 2GB 1RX8 PC3-10600S-9-10-01
