So my brother brought me his laptop saying the monitor doesn't work. While I was copying his hard drive's stuff to an external I poked around inside and found a single wire that runs from the monitor to the motherboard, which terminates in these two loose ends.

The black wire is labeled 1, the grey wire is labeled 2. The receiving plugs I assume are the two silver screw-like pillars, but I can't be sure as I've never seen this plug type before. What I'm basically asking is 1) what kind of plugs are these (if they're even plugs)?, 2) are they broken/can they be plugged back in? and 3) if so, where?

All help is appreciated, will update later if I can figure out what model laptop it is.

Yes actually, my uncle tried to fix it in an entirely unrelated problem when he was back up in Utah and managed to break the wifi card, he's been using a USB one since. I guess that's what happened to that. Shame, that was the only broken connection between the motherboard and the monitor, I guess the mobo is fried. Still, thanks for clearing that up!
