Hello, 1 week agow i tried to update my gpu (r9 280x) to the latest driver and it was succesful, but when i restart the computer it says that its either damaged or not there. I searched for this problem and it said that it could be windows update so i oppened it up and wasnt able to update a security update.

I got a code 1, i was trying to update KB3024777.

After more research i found on a microsoft site that i should check the certificates and se so that the dates were the same as mentioned on the page. "was, and 2 wasnt the same date. Does this mean that my windows isnt genuine?

I bought my windows from a friend who sold it pretty cheap.

thanks in advance

when you boot up the pc it will flash a quick key to press to enter setup or bios. usually it is f2, f10 or sometimes del. watch for it as it goes by quick and press it as soon as the system beeps and keep pressing it until it's clear windows is not starting but it is entering set-up. then somewhere in there will be a place for the date and time.

to roll back the driver just go to the device manager (control panel-> device manager) and select your display adapter. double click it and under the driver tab it should give you a button to "roll back driver" to the previous one it used. click this and then reboot and it should be back where it was

Get your money back and buy a legal copy. [/quotemsg]

Oh, so is this why i cant install new gpu drivers because i could before. I will buy a new license but will i need to reinstall windows or is there a way to change it without reinstallation? It says that windows is activated and genuine.

if windows system info says it is active and genuine then this is not the problem.

what it is saying is that the website internet security certificates do not match the dates on the system. so the certificate says it is good from 2000-2010 but it is now 2014. this certificate will be rejected and you will get the error code. this can happen when the date in the bios gets reset to it's default date. so the certificate is good from 2013-2015 but your bios thinks it is 2007 so they do not match up.

check your bios and make sure the date is not wrong. if it is right, then the driver might just be buggy and not work for your system yet. it happens a lot. just roll back to the previous driver for now and give it a few for it to be updated and then try again.

again it is not your windows key but another issue

if it's right then your ok. this means more than likely the driver is just not going to work for you right now. do the roll back and you should be ok right now.

try windows update after this and see if it works now. if not you may have to run the update fixer to see what might be off. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/troubleshoot-problems-installing-updates#1TC=windows-7

sometimes an update can mess things up for the others or any number of wierd issues from seemingly unrelated installs (like your new driver)

edit: and to be sure if your windows was not geniune, you would know. MS is not sneaky in telling you. your desktop would be replaced with a huge message and you'd get pop-ups telling you and all kinds of "reminders"

are you on win7? i found references to this code for win 7 that suggests permission and registry issues that will cause this issue.

fixes start with the windows fix it i posted above and then move to more complicated "taking ownership" of specific folders ad solutions. try the fix it page and see if that helps. if not can try something else. turn off antivirus software for now so it does not interfere with the tool

well that sucks. i have run into this issue before and it had a different solution each time. the first time i saw it was with the newest .net (4.5 i believe?) it jacked win update all up until i uninstalled it. they may have patched it since but i have not tried to use it since then.

you're going to have to keep googling and trying stuff until it finally works for some random fix you probably tried already. won't make any sense when it does work but eventually it will.

you can also try to use windows restore point and back it up a week or 2 to hopefully undo whatever is causing the issue. this has worked for me in the past as well.
