Can I use the windows 8 CD i bought to re-install windows, thus removing everything and resetting it to a brand new PC? I'm hoping to upgrade my motherboard, and the method of resetting through the PC settings isn't working for me.
you should be ok so long as the key is only in use once. all it can say is no when you enter your key. then it won't reinstall anything and quit the install.
if you bought the disk yourself there should be no issues no matter what type of key it is. problems can show up when the key is from a prebuilt system like an hp or dell that uses a key tied to the mobo.
If you change the motherboard you need to do a clean install. windows 8 can be reinstalled as much as you like as long as its legal, and only on one PC at a time. Only exception is prebuilt OEM PCs where you can't transfer it

Ye, my question is can I do a clean install from the CD? I'm on it now and it says "Ready to install... (tick) install windows 8, (tick) dont keep anything"
This is a re-install yes? I somehow bought an OEM key back when I first built my PC though, but should be fine to change motherboard after a clean install?
