Hey guys,

I have an external hard drive, to say the least, it was dropped a few times.

I plugged it into my computer, and only the BIOS can see it,

not in "My Computer" or in disk management

Does anyone have any solution as to how I can find my data

did you try initializing the drive in disk management?

otherwise, if you can see it in explorer, which Im presuming you meant by "disk drives" try formatting it within explorer

squeaking normal in the last 2 seconds before it stops spinning. Wish I could help. Try a recovery software.

Personally if I were you, I have an OS X Mac Pro sitting next to me, I'd toss the drive in there and see if the Mac recognizes it in disk utility. Do you know if its FAT or NTFS formatted?

If i didn't already mention it. Make sure that you put the drive in the computer while its off and then boot it. That way your BIOS recognizes it

One of your posts has the big clue: "No, by disk drives i meant in device manager

i can't see it in explorer"

Usually, the fact that an external HDD unit can be seen Device Manager does NOT automatically mean that it is working. What it DOES mean is that Windows can find come device out there - the controller board in the external case that is able to "talk" to Windows. However, it is entirely possible that the actual HDD unit inside the case is NOT working and cannot respond to what that controller board wants it to do. That can happen if you dropped it and the HDD was damaged.

It is quite possible the external unit is dead. To be absolutely sure, you would have to open the external case, remove the HDD unit and connect it directly into the ports of the mobo in your computer. There you could use a HDD testing utility to determine whether the unit is faulty or not.

i have another computer,

i hooked up the sata drive to the sata and power connections

for some reason, when i got to the Windows load scree, it would be very dim, and you couldn't see the loading bar
it would just sit there

but when i took it off, it would work fine right into the desktop

I'm not sure I understand your last two posts. You say "it worked fine" in a second computer after a small delay. AFTER that, did you use Seatools to test it in that computer? What were the results? Or, is that what you already reported in your prior post?

Important question: what brand of HDD unit was inside the external case? If it was a Seagate unit, then Seatools is the right testing system. But if it was from another maker, try to get their diagnostic suite. For example. WD has Data LifeGuard.

i said it hardly makes any noise except when its powering down
